The Metsä Group www.metsagroup.com plans to build a demonstration plant for the manufacture of textile fibres from pulp. The plant will be integrated into the pulp and biorefinery site in Äänekoski and will produce up to 500 tons of textile fibres using the method developed by Metsä Fiber.
In addition, the Metsä Group has founded a research and innovation company with the task of identifying and developing new business opportunities in bioeconomy sectors based on forestry economy and circular economy. According to Metsä Group, the creation of the new innovation company, Metsä Spring, would not affect its current activities of development and research in the areas of existing activities.
