Sappi Europe has concluded the consultation process launched in July regarding the potential closure of several assets at its Alfeld Mill in Germany. As a result, Paper Machine 1, Paper Machine 4, Offline Coater 2, and Sheet Finishing will be permanently closed.
The move aims to improve the mill’s profitability and cost competitiveness and will result in a reduction of around 180 positions, achieved through unfilled vacancies, voluntary agreements, and, where necessary, redundancies.
«These changes reflect our ongoing commitment to optimise operations, enhance sustainability, and secure the long-term competitiveness of Sappi Europe,» said Misa Bursac, VP Manufacturing, R&D and Technology. «By consolidating production on remaining machines, we will strengthen our reliability and prepare the Alfeld site for future market demands.»
Following these changes, Alfeld Mill will focus on producing speciality and high-barrier papers. Customer deliveries will continue without disruption.
