Tageos, a part of the Fedrigoni Group and a key player in the production of RFID inlays and tags, has inaugurated its new Innovation Center of Excellence (ICoE) in Munich, Germany. The center responds to the growing demand for RFID, HF & NFC, and wireless IoT solutions, with a focus on emerging technologies such as specialized antennas, BLE, flexible batteries, and sensors.
The ICoE is not just a technology hub—it also provides Engineering-as-a-Service support to help customers and partners with the design, prototyping, and industrialization of new products. Testing and small-scale production will take place onsite, while large-scale manufacturing will be handled by Tageos’ certified facilities in France, the United States, and China, which together have an annual production capacity of over 11 billion units. The new center complements Fedrigoni’s Innovation Center in Verona, forming a European hub of excellence for RFID, IoT technologies, and smart materials applied to labels and packaging.
RFID plays a strategic role for Fedrigoni, aiming to meet the needs of various sectors—from luxury to pharmaceuticals, food & beverage to cosmetics—by enabling traceability, authentication, and enhanced customer experience.
The center, spanning over 700 m² and employing 15 people, represents a multimillion-euro investment and strengthens Tageos’ position as a pioneer in the RFID market. The choice of Munich reflects the city’s reputation as a high-tech innovation hub.
The center will also provide technical support and testing to optimize industrial-scale production processes for NFC/RFID labels, including for prototypes and small batches. Technologies like printed antennas will enable the development of ultra-thin, flexible, and sustainable inlays.
Marco Nespolo, CEO of Fedrigoni, expressed enthusiasm for the project as a symbol of synergy between the two groups. Matthieu Picon, CEO of Tageos, highlighted the widespread adoption of RFID and emphasized that the ICoE marks a further step toward developing innovative, sustainable, and high-value solutions for customers.
