Valmet and Helen have signed a four-year service agreement to ensure the performance of the K7 bubbling fluidized bed (BFB) boiler fired with wood pellets at the Salmisaari power plant.

The boiler, originally coal-fired, was converted by Valmet and delivered in March 2025, marking a step toward Helen’s goal of carbon-neutral energy and the gradual phase-out of coal. The agreement provides planned maintenance and operational support to ensure the plant’s reliability, safety, and optimal performance.

“Valmet will play a key role in providing operational services in close collaboration with our personnel,” said Jari Rahtu, Asset Manager at Helen Salmisaari.

“The agreement was developed to meet the specific needs of the plant and ensure the smooth integration and reliable operation of the new technologies,” added Sampo Smolander, Sales Manager, Pulp, Energy & Circularity Finland, Valmet.
