Papkot has unveiled Papkot PA (Processing Aids), a new mineral-based additive that transforms the structure, performance, and economics of paper and thermoformed cellulose production. The launch expands Papkot beyond coatings with a second major product line.

Industrial tests with Fedrigoni at Cordenons and Fabriano, confirmed that adding just 1% Papkot PA can reduce fiber usage by up to 20% while maintaining equivalent performance. For a standard 280,000-ton mill, this translates into $12.6 million in annual savings, according to CEO Manuel Milliery.

Papkot PA’s plastic-free inorganic nanostructures bind fibers at the molecular level, increasing rigidity and strength. Benefits include lower fiber costs, reduced energy consumption, lighter finished products, and improved performance.

In a global first, Papkot and Fedrigoni used up to 100% siliconized glassine waste with standard fibers to produce high-performance thermoformed containers using only 1% Papkot PA. The technology is validated at TRL 7, ready for industrial use.

Papkot’s platform now includes Papkot Adhesives and Papkot PA, all biodegradable, fully recyclable, and food-contact safe. Fedrigoni VP Micaela Di Tranasaid «Sustainability is no longer a cost center but a driver of profitability.»

CEO Manuel Milliery highlighted future developments, including a new PA grade that boosts elongation and flexibility by up to 30%, enabling recycled fibers to match premium long fibers at nearly half the cost. Papkot PA promises stronger, lighter, and more economical paper products while maintaining full recyclability and biodegradability.
