Smurfit Westrock, the world’s largest integrated paper-based packaging company with operations in 40 countries across Latin America, North America, EMEA, and APAC, has completed an asset purchase agreement for Cartomanabí, one of the leading corrugated packaging companies in Ecuador.
This acquisition represents a strategic milestone in the company’s plan to expand in the region. It reinforces Smurfit Westrock’s position as the #1 corrugated supplier in Latin America and, with paper supplied from its North American mill network, further increases its operational integration.
Founded in 2020 and based in Montecristi, Ecuador, Cartomanabí has an annual production capacity exceeding 50,000 tons. The company primarily serves the agriculture, protein, FMCG, and industrial sectors. The acquisition positions Smurfit Westrock to leverage corrugated packaging growth opportunities in both Ecuador and the broader Latin American market.
Alvaro Henao, President and CEO of Smurfit Westrock Latin America, commented: “The transaction in Ecuador is our first as Smurfit Westrock. It marks an important milestone for us in Latin America, where we are the only pan-regional supplier with a fully integrated supply chain and the broadest range of sustainable and innovative paper-based solutions. We look forward to collaborating with customers in this country and sharing our expertise, knowledge, and value-driven innovation.” With this acquisition, Smurfit Westrock further strengthens its ability to support customer growth in Ecuador and across Latin America.
