Smurfit Westrock has opened a new €40 million Adherence & Clinicals packaging plant beside Dublin Airport, marking a major expansion of Ireland’s role in global healthcare manufacturing. The state-of-the-art facility is the first of its kind, purpose-built to serve the clinical trials and regulated pharmaceutical packaging sectors.

Designed to mirror the standards of a pharmaceutical production environment, the site puts patient needs at the centre of its operations. Its goal: to improve patient adherence and deliver more reliable clinical data through innovative packaging solutions.

Speaking at the opening, Tony Smurfit, President and CEO of Smurfit Westrock, said the new plant represented a significant step for the company and for Ireland’s life sciences sector.

«We are immensely proud of this groundbreaking and beautifully designed new plant. The packaging solutions which are designed and manufactured here will contribute significantly to the next generation of life-saving medicines.»

The facility employs 170 people across design, operations, and support functions, and includes an Experience Centre where visitors can explore the company’s capabilities and tailor solutions to their individual project needs.

Located strategically for European distribution, the Dublin site strengthens Smurfit Westrock’s global network, which also includes advanced adherence and clinical packaging operations in Kunshan, China, and Mebane, North Carolina, USA.

With this investment, Smurfit Westrock reinforces both its leadership in clinical packaging and Ireland’s reputation as a hub for innovation in the healthcare and life sciences industries.
