Valmet to supply automation system for CO₂ liquefaction plant in Finland

Valmet has received an order from Suomen Biovoima Oy to supply a Valmet DNAe Distributed Control System (DCS) for a new CO₂ liquefaction plant at Auris Energia’s biogas facility in Mäntsälä, Finland. According to Valmet, it will be the first plant of its kind built in Finland using this technology.

The plant will capture, purify and liquefy CO₂ generated as a byproduct of biogas production, preventing it from being released directly into the atmosphere. The liquefied CO₂ can then be used in industrial applications, including concrete production, where it can be permanently bound into building materials.

The Valmet DNAe system will provide advanced process control and real-time monitoring, supporting more efficient use of energy and raw materials while reducing the need for manual intervention.

The solution will also enable secure data transfer, monitoring and reporting of the plant’s status and key performance indicators. The planned level of automation will allow the plant to operate without on-site personnel.

The delivery will be carried out in phases, with the main system delivery scheduled for November 2026 and installation planned for December. Start-up is expected in the first quarter of 2027. The value of the order has not been disclosed.
