Voith Paper marks the 40th anniversary of its NipcoFlex technology, which has been successfully installed in over 700 shoe presses worldwide since its introduction in 1984. The technology revolutionized paper production, delivering maximum output, superior quality, and significant energy savings.

«NipcoFlex technology marked a turning point in paper manufacturing,» said Michael Weiss, CTO at Voith Paper. «It offers individually adjustable pressure distribution in the press nip, broad production capabilities, and notable energy efficiency. Its continued development reflects our commitment to innovation, quality, and sustainability.»

The technology features a simple, reliable design with a hydrodynamic pressure shoe, insulating layers, and low bending stiffness to ensure optimal line force profiles and uninterrupted pressure increase. This results in efficient dewatering, minimal re-moistening of felts, and easy machine handling.

Günter Leitgeb, Mill Manager at Smurfit Westrock Nettingsdorf, praised the technology: «We have relied on NipcoFlex for over 40 years. Reliability, easy handling, and top performance are integral to our production.»

Voith combines NipcoFlex with QualiFlex high-performance press sleeves to deliver a complete package for maximum performance. The company is also developing the next generation of shoe press technology, focusing on energy savings, improved maintenance, and extended lifecycle performance for felts and covers. Early results from the HighPerformance Press concept show over 4% steam savings, highlighting Voith’s commitment to resource-efficient production.
