The rebuild of two recausticizing plants

Sweden chose Metso for two orders: the first is for two lime mud filters to Smurfit Kappa Kraftliner in Lövholmen – received June 2013 and the start-up is planned in June 2014. «The old filters from 1972 were totally out worn and had to be replaced. Doing this forced replacement also opened up the possibility to design the filters and the conveyor system for a future capacity and a flexible system with a high availability on lime production. The expected outcome of the project is high and stable availability and reduced operation cost», says Bo Johansson, Manager Technology at Smurfit Kappa Kraftliner.

The scope of supply includes two lime mud filters with auxiliary equipment and also a conveyor system which facilitates distribution of lime to respective lime kiln and lime storage. The two lime mud filters will replace three existing filters.

The secondo order regards Stora Enso Skoghall: for then Metso will supply an upgrade of the existing recausticizing plant. The start-up is scheduled in October 2014. «The investment project Pulp Mill Improvement at Skoghall mill includes as a vital part an upgrade of the recausticizing plant. The objective of the project is to increase the pulp production and reduce variable costs in line with the continuous program for improved cost efficiency of the Skoghall mill integrate», says Carl-Johan Albinsson, Mill Manager at Stora Enso Skoghall. The scope of supply includes a PDW filter and a rebuild of the lime kiln with a flash dryer. Metso’s delivery is EPC excluding civil construction. The PDW filter with auxiliary equipment is a preparation for a future capacity increase of the plant. The lime kiln rebuild, which is the first done under the Metso brand, consist of a new flash dryer and an addition to the existing ESP with a new section.
