Cartiere del Garda has signed a long-term agreement for the supply of biomethane to power production processes at its mill in Riva del Garda, Italy. The agreement represents a further step in the company’s decarbonisation strategy and its efforts to make production more sustainable.
Biomethane is a renewable gas produced by upgrading biogas generated through the anaerobic digestion of organic materials, including agricultural residues, agro-industrial by-products and organic waste. It can replace fossil natural gas without requiring changes to existing infrastructure, allowing industrial companies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions associated with their operations.
The biomethane supplied to Cartiere del Garda will be backed by sustainability certificates and guarantees of origin confirming the renewable nature of the fuel and its compliance with applicable sustainability requirements.
The agreement complements other measures already implemented by Cartiere del Garda as part of its long-term decarbonisation programme. These include continuous improvements in the energy efficiency of production processes and the use of HVO (Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil) for transport, helping to reduce both direct and indirect greenhouse gas emissions from the mill.

With the new agreement, Cartiere del Garda is further strengthening its commitment to supporting the decarbonisation of the paper industry and promoting an industrial model based on circular economy principles, innovation and environmental sustainability.
