DS Smith has announced the acquisition of the remaining 50% of the Italian collection company Italmaceri Srl (“Italmaceri”) of which it already owned 50% as part of the 2012 acquisition of SCA Packaging. Italmaceri is the second most important Italian recycling company and processes more than 500,000 tonnes of recycled fibre per year. The company has its registered office and operative headquarters in Turin, with plants in Ancona, Casarile and Novara. Miles Roberts, the MD of DS Smith explains: «The acquisition of Italmaceri is in line with the DS Smith strategy of achieving a leading position in the recycling industry. It strengthens our leadership in Europe and allows us to increase our closed circuit recycling model in Italy, where we already operate in paper and packaging». Peter McGuinness, Managing Director of the Recycling Division of DS Smith: «The recycled fibre of Italmaceri will guarantee us a flow of fibre supplies for our recycling network, including the DS Smith paper mill in Lucca. We have taken the opportunity to invest further in an innovative business that will help us pursue our vision: The Power of Less, i.e. helping our clients obtain more with the least possible environmental impact and end up with maximum efficiency, reducing costs».
