The second edition of Tissue Planet – Future Insights, organized by Toscotec, brought together around 300 international participants from 25 countries and more than 40 companies in Lucca, confirming the city’s role as a global hub for the Tissue industry.
The event focused on key transformation drivers for the sector, including sustainability, digitalization, and the impact of artificial intelligence on manufacturing. Among the speakers, Professor Mariarosaria Taddeo (University of Oxford) highlighted the importance of ethics and soft skills in the development of intelligent technologies.
Executives and representatives from major international groups such as Essity, WEPA, Sofidel, Suzano, Navigator, and Kruger Products discussed market outlooks, regulatory challenges, global competitiveness, and decarbonization strategies. A sector study was also presented, estimating over 421,000 jobs and €36.6 billion in added value for the European tissue industry.
Strong emphasis was placed on industrial sustainability and technological innovation, with a focus on emissions reduction, energy efficiency, and new production models. Toscotec showcased solutions for process decarbonization, particularly through energy recovery technologies.
The initiative concluded with networking and knowledge-sharing moments among companies and institutions, reinforcing the role of Lucca’s “Tissue Valley” as an international hub for the industry.
