Metsä Group and Finnish AI and quantum technology company Qutwo have launched a collaboration to expand the use of advanced artificial intelligence in the forest industry and integrate next-generation AI into core production and supply chain processes. The partnership aims to improve efficiency, optimise complex operations and increase the value derived from wood raw materials. Qutwo will provide its AI and quantum platform, Qutwo OS, to support decision-making across Metsä’s operations.
“Metsä has been leveraging AI for a long time… this partnership takes it to the next level,” said Anni Rasinen, Director Business AI at Metsä Group. The initial focus will be on improving productivity in tissue converting lines and optimising wood procurement, enabling more efficient use of raw materials from forest to mill.
“The competitiveness of European industry will depend on how quickly it develops next-generation AI,” said Qutwo Chairman Peter Sarlin, highlighting the strategic importance of the collaboration.
Metsä Group already uses AI in areas such as wood pricing, forest damage prediction and biodiversity valuation, and expects the partnership to further strengthen its digital capabilities and industrial competitiveness.
