Metsä Tissue has applied for an environmental permit to build a new tissue paper machine at the Mariestad site in Sweden. In addition to the new TM, the plan also includes an automated warehouse and an office building. The volume of investment at the Katrinefors mill in Mariestad is estimated at approximately € 230 millions.

Metsä Tissue expects the EIA (Environmental Impact Assessment) study is completed in the first half of 2021. The final investment decision could be made during the second half of 2021.

According to the company, the project is a first phase of a larger investment project that aims at doubling the company’s capacity in two phases and increasing its focus on virgin fibre-based products. «In the first phase, the planned investments would increase Mariestad’s annual tissue paper production capacity by 50,000 tpy fully as of 2024», Metsä Tissue announced.
