Mondi has successfully started up its new state-of-the-art €400 million paper machine at its Štětí mill in the Czech Republic. The machine began production in December 2024 and has already demonstrated excellent results in strength, machine runnability, and consistent quality.
This significant investment supports the growing demand for paper-based flexible packaging and aligns with Mondi’s MAP2030 sustainability goals. It also strengthens the company’s vertically integrated paper bag business and optimises the efficiency of Mondi’s kraft paper portfolio.
The new machine ensures a reliable supply of kraft paper to customers transitioning to paper-based solutions. It expands Mondi’s offering of kraft paper grades—from high-strength to high-porosity—used in applications such as construction and industrial sacks.
“We are pleased to have started up the paper machine. The project team did a fantastic job, delivering the installation on time and on budget. The paper quality is excellent, and we’re impressed with how quickly we’ve been able to produce paper that meets our customers’ expectations,” said Roman Senecky, COO Kraft Paper at Mondi.
The successful start-up marks a major milestone in Mondi’s journey toward making all packaging solutions reusable, recyclable, or compostable, as part of its Action Plan 2030.
