British paper and packaging giant DS Smith will expand its Cartogal packaging plant in A Pobra do Caramiñal, in the Spanish province of Galicia.
The British company is set to spend 11.35 million euros to increase the plant’s production and storage capacity. The company also announced that the operating area, which currently stands at 11,000 m², will be expanded by 6,000 m².
Work on the expansion began in March and will be carried out in several phases. During the seven-month planned duration of the work, the new buildings will be installed and, at the end of 2023, the new machinery will be installed.
DS Smith operates 26 plants in the Iberian Peninsula, 3 of which are located in the province of Galicia: the Cartogal plant, DS Smith Galicia in Vilagarcía de Arousa, and DS Smith Tecnicartón Vigo, located in Porriño.
The company recently announced plans to expand its packaging operations in Finland and Germany. In addition, the company is upgrading its kraftliner plant in Portugal and is considering installing a new recycled board machine in Italy.
