Upm finalizes the sale of the Shotton paper mill

Newsprint paper mill UPM Shotton, which is located on the estuary of the Dee river in Flintshire, North Wales, has finally changed hands All related assets will be transferred to Eren Paper www.erenholding.com, a subsidiary of Modern Karton in Turkey.

The existing renewable energy generation plant and the material recovery and recycling plant will continue to operate during the conversion process, Eren Paper said.

Eren Paper has big plans for the Shotton mill – a plant with a production capacity of 260,000 tonne per year. In view of the regular planning demand, the company has submitted a scoping report, in which it proposes to expand and redevelop the site into an industrial complex producing 650 thousand tonnes per year of recycled containerboard (RCCM), 105 thousand tonnes per year of corrugated board and 210 thousand tonnes of tissue. The company also plans to build a new gas-fired combined heat and power (CHP) plant with a total capacity of 50 MWe.
