UPM has informed the representatives of its employees at the French paper mill in Chapelle Darblay of its intention to start negotiations on the possible closure of the plant. These negotiations are expected to be concluded by the end of the second quarter of 2020 and will be carried out in compliance with the French law.
However, the sales process of the plant will continue during negotiations with the employees. UPM has stressed its intention to sell, rather than close, the site, if a solid offer is submitted. The plant currently employs 236 people and has an annual production capacity of 240 thousand tons of newsprint paper.
The sales process was started last September. Since then, UPM has held constant and significant negotiations with potential buyers. «These talks are still ongoing, but we have not yet received binding offers for the plant from potential buyers», says the company.
