Valmet has agreed to acquire the Manufacturing Execution System (MES) business from Tieto, including its TIPS MES platform and Order to Cash solution for the pulp, paper and fibre industries. The acquisition will complete Valmet’s Automation Solutions portfolio for the pulp and paper sector and strengthen its position in industrial automation.

TIPS MES connects production planning with manufacturing operations, enabling real-time production management and optimisation. The web-based SaaS platform also incorporates generative AI capabilities. It is installed at approximately 300 pulp and paper production sites worldwide and generates annual revenues of around EUR 32 million.

By combining Valmet’s automation expertise and global reach with Tieto’s manufacturing software solutions, the companies aim to help customers improve mill performance and accelerate the transition towards autonomous operations.

“By connecting customer demand, planning, execution, and real-time process control, we can help customers optimise performance across the entire mill and accelerate their transition towards autonomous operations,” said Jari Almi, VP, Pulp and Paper Systems at Valmet.

The acquired business is expected to become part of Valmet’s Process Performance Solutions segment. Completion is anticipated in the second quarter of 2027, subject to customary closing conditions. Existing customers will continue to receive support and services without interruption.
