Voith has launched SealView NG, the latest generation of its monitoring system for suction roll sealing strips, designed to improve maintenance planning and machine availability in paper mills.
The system continuously monitors the wear condition of sealing strips across their entire width, accurately estimating their remaining service life. This allows papermakers to schedule maintenance and roll changes according to actual operating conditions, avoid premature replacements and ensure spare parts are available when needed.
Suction roll sealing strips operate in demanding environments where humidity and contamination can accelerate wear. Since the strips are not directly visible, operators often rely on experience and estimates to assess their condition. Excessive wear can cause a sudden loss of vacuum and unplanned machine shutdowns, while replacing strips too early increases maintenance costs.
SealView NG addresses these challenges through pneumatic-based monitoring technology designed to ensure reliable operation in wet and demanding conditions, reducing the risk of electrical faults and malfunctions. Unlike systems based on occasional spot measurements, it provides continuous monitoring across the full strip width.
The compact, plug-and-play solution features a user-friendly LED display and a local web-based application that operates offline, without requiring an internet connection or specialist IT expertise. It is compatible with all major suction roll brands and can be installed during regular roll servicing at Voith Mechanical Roll Service Centers worldwide.
“With SealView NG, we have designed a continuous condition-monitoring system for suction roll sealing strips that is reliable and easy to use. The pneumatic-based technology gives operators a clear picture of the wear status of their sealing strips, so they can plan maintenance more efficiently, avoid premature roll changes, and increase machine availability,” said Halim Takhedmit, Digital Product Manager Fabric & Roll Systems at Voith Paper.
