A now historical event in Italy, Cartasia Lucca Biennale, international paper event, returns. This event is organised in collaboration with the Municipality of Lucca (Tuscany, Italy), the contribution of Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Lucca and DS Smith: seven monumental sculptures in Lucca’s squares, two exhibition halls with unique and interactive works by international artists. Many constructed exclusively for this event which is recognised throughout the world as the top paper and art event to create monumental works. About 400 artists worldwide took part in the three competitions for artist, designers and architects announced by the Biennial to select the works for the 2018 edition.
Furthermore, from this year, Lucca Biennial will award prizes to the artists taking part in the festival who are recognised as being amongst the most interesting on the international scene. Special mention will go to the British sculpture James Lake who uses cardboard for his works. The career prize, on the other hand, will go to the Japanese artist Nahoko Kojima, one of the main exponents of Paper Art, who will create a work on commission for the Biennial.
