Cascades announces the closure of two paper sheet factories in Barrie, in Jellco in Canada, and Peterborough, in Ontario, as part of its continuous effort to reorganise and optimise its own platform for corrugated packaging in Ontario.
“We announce that the production of the Barrie and Peterborough factories will be gradually moved over into the other facilities in Ontario. This decision will allow us to better align our existing manufacturing capacity and to improve our customer services”, explains Charles Malo, president and chief Operating officer of Cascades containerboard packaging.
The two factories will be closed not later than 31 December 2018, affecting about 65 employees. The company is issuing this announcement well in advance of the anticipated closure date, so as to reduce to the minimum the impact on the employees and focus efforts on transferring as many affected staff as possible into other company units.
