Valmet has secured an order worth more than EUR 100 million to supply key technologies for Century Sunshine’s new pulp mill under construction in Rizhao, Shandong province, China.

The delivery includes cooking and fibre lines, an evaporation plant, a recovery boiler with optimisation systems, ash treatment and a white liquor plant.

The project is part of Century Sunshine’s three-phase “Paper-for-Plastic” investment programme, which aims to add 2.65 million tonnes of annual paper production capacity. The new mill will produce 1.2 million tonnes of hardwood or softwood pulp, plus an additional 400,000 tonnes of softwood pulp annually. Its product portfolio will include fluff, dissolving, hardwood and softwood pulp.

The facility will incorporate energy-efficiency and emissions-control technologies, including a high-power recovery boiler and an electrostatic precipitator for dust reduction.

“The production of different pulp grades is an excellent example of product differentiation to meet growing market needs. The mill will feature the latest cooking technologies, together with advanced optimisation, safety and emissions-control systems,” said Andreas Michalik, Vice President, Pulp Mills, Pulp, Energy and Circularity Business Area at Valmet.

According to Jeff Cheng, Vice President of Century Sunshine, the investment will strengthen the group’s raw material self-sufficiency and support its growth in the Chinese market.

The order was included in Valmet’s second-quarter 2026 order intake. The exact contract value has not been disclosed, and start-up of the new mill is expected in June 2028.
